Objectives:
The client wished to simplify the home’s overall design as the architectural style was too ornate for their taste. In addition to remodeling the exterior, update the interiors, including the living room, family room, foyer, master closets, and various other areas throughout the home. Create a new entry that includes a wrought iron and glass door, and construct a gym with a custom, built-in aquarium in the second-floor patio space. Remodel the master bath, providing privacy without door and window coverings. Build a new tennis court that has minimal impact on the yard.
The Bright Home
Outcome:
The home’s exterior plaster was resurfaced and recolored, and bullnose corners were added; doors and windows were also redesigned. The home’s columns and ornate architectural details were removed. The front entry was transformed into an arched opening with a plaster and tile surround. A new, custom front door comprised of glass and a wrought iron pattern of a tree and branches was installed; the window above the front door was redesigned as well. The interior remodel involved updating windows and doors to allow for more light into the rooms, removal of unnecessary arches and columns, and the installation of custom cabinetry and new lighting.
The master bath was opened up, and a custom resin tub, designed and fabricated by the interior designer, was placed at the center of the room; the tub’s bottom was outfitted with fiber optics, which allows it to light up and change colors. The French doors were equipped with electric glass that turns opaque at the flip of a switch. A custom aquarium was built into the stairwell wall and is visible from the new gym addition. A new tennis court was constructed and sunken into the ground so that only a fence and low hedge are visible from the yard.
