The Cooper Residence

Objectives:

Reorganize a disjointed floor plan, and add interest and light to a plain living room with a new skylight. Relocate and remodel the kitchen to include a window on the exterior wall, and add a breakfast room. Add a powder room and coat closet, and remodel the front entry, changing its current style. Add a family/screening room, and renovate all the bathrooms, including the master bath. Create an entry from the garage to the house.

Outcome:

Fully remodeled, the home’s 1950s-era stone walls were replaced by smooth stucco and siding while most of the doors and windows were replaced; also remodeled were the master bath and secondary baths. The roof over the entry was reconfigured into a pitched gable roof, and the foyer was expanded to accommodate a new powder room and coat closet. Wood paneling and a multi-step crown molding were added to the living room, and the fireplace mantle was redesigned. A coffered ceiling was created for the newly expanded family/screening room.

The side of the house where the kitchen and garage are located was reworked by adding an entrance to the garage, a new laundry room, and a butler’s pantry that connects to the dining room. The newly-remodeled kitchen was relocated to an exterior wall and adjacent to it, a breakfast room was created.
